It’s not every day that you can find someone trustworthy and properly trained on the Porsche classic line. Here at Barnaba Autosport, we’ve got you covered! We service and repair all Porsche models!
As a perfect example, we recently had an exquisite Amazon Green Metallic 1993 Porsche 968 Cabriolet with 29,000 miles in for repair and routine maintenance! This is the unicorn of the 968 line!
Below you will find some of the highlights of this stunning Porsche classic!
Timing Belt Replacement
A timing belt is the ribbed belt that is placed in a specific configuration along one side of your engine to keep the crank and camshafts timed properly. Essentially, it keeps the top half of the engine (cylinder head, valves) in sync with the bottom half (crankcase, pistons).
An interference type engine means that the valve’s stroke and piston’s stroke take up the same space in the cylinder, so the timing belt essentially keeps them from smashing into each other, since they do it at different times. If the timing belt breaks, they run into each other, causing bent valves (most common), cylinder head or camshaft damage, and possibly piston and cylinder wall damage. While it is possible that no damage could occur from a broken belt on an interference engine, such a case is unlikely.
Replacing the timing belt is a critical part of the maintenance on the 968. Our well educated client made the wise decision to have Barnaba Autosport replace the timing belt, balance shaft belt, all idler and tensioner pulleys, water pump and thermostat to prevent this from possibly happening down the road.
Routine Maintenance
In conjunction with the timing belt replacement our client also opted to have all routine maintenance performed up-to-date as he is new to the vehicle and doesn’t have the previous service history.
During our complimentary multi-point inspection we had found several items that required attention:
The spark plugs looked aged and were in poor condition.
The fuel filter appeared to be original from the factory which would have made it 25 years old!
The coolant was milky and tested outside of the factory specifications for antifreeze protection.
The Tiptronic Transmission fluid was very dark and appeared to not have been serviced within the recommended replacement interval set by the manufacturer.
The brake fluid tested at over 4% moisture content which is more than double the recommended content set by the manufacturer.
And we performed a fresh oil & filter change with a new OEM oil filter and drain plug.
By having these services performed the client is ensuring his safety, the reliability of his beautiful 968 and he is also protecting his investment.
After performing an oil & filter change we ensure that there isn’t any residual oil and we clean any protective plates and underbody covers.
After performing the Tiptronic Transmission fluid replacement along with a new filter and pan gasket we clean it to make it look like we were never there!
Like I said… We make it look like we were never there!
And because our client wanted to make sure that the vehicle was in as good of shape cosmetically as it was mechanically, he wanted two wheels repaired and refinished and a dent repaired using paintless dent removal. Oh yeah… We do that too!
And what better place to take it to than the Porsche specialists at Barnaba Autosport where our main focus is on you and your Porsche vehicle?
