What does IMS stand for?

The Porsche IMS stands for the intermediate shaft and is a geared shaft that runs through the front and rear of the engine. It indirectly drives the camshafts on either side of the engine by way of the mechanical rotation of the engine’s crankshaft.

Find a wide variety of IMS Retrofit products backed by an impressive warranty. All genuine LN IMS Retrofit kits come laser etched, engraved, and serial numbered to validate their authenticity and feature custom-made, ceramic hybrid ball bearings made exclusively for LN Engineering. IMS Retrofit products we offer at Barnaba Auto Sport include:

Dual Row IMS Retrofit

Why IMS Bearings Fail

Lack of lubrication (sealed bearing was used)
Insufficient load capacity (factory single row bearing had high failure rate of 8%)
The factory did not supply a service interval, replacement, or tools for changing the original bearing out bearing should have had a service interval!

IMS Failure Symptoms

  • Rattling engine noise
  • Presence of metallic debris in oil
  • Oil leaking
  • Issues changing gears
